As triathlon organisers we would like to make our event fully inclusive to ensure all disabled people have the opportunity to participate. We shall endeavour to make reasonable steps to try and implement the necessary adjustments.
It is important that the triathlon organisers are informed as soon as possible if any participants are disabled so that investigations can be made in to the adjustments required to the event to allow them to take part.
The British Triathlon Federation have developed and adopted a ‘Classification System’ for disabled triathletes. The classification system assesses disabled triathletes using a functional profile system of 48 different profiles. Each triathlete is appointed an appropriate profile number, which best describes their disability. However, at this stage it would be inappropriate to have 48 categories of entry (one for each profile) so the classification system groups similar profiles in to seven classes (TR1, TR2, TR3, TR4, TR5, TR6, TR7).
As this is not a National competition, all disabled triathletes can complete a self-assessment of the profiling and class for competing. These details are completed on a ‘Statement of Declaration’ form which is submitted with the race entry. These forms are to assist the organisers and referees and planning with the event.

The organisers may contact disabled triathletes to clearly identify what steps need to be taken to take part in the event. If in the organiser’s opinion the necessary adjustments cannot be accommodated this year we shall endeavour to make adjustments in next year’s event.
