On this page you will find information about the kind of learning opportunities we offer at Erewash Museum.  At the moment we provide a "Living History" service for schools and a variety of themed sessions for adult groups.

We also offer a couple of activities for children to take part in informally as they look around the Museum, these are available for you to download on the Erewash Museum page in the menu on the left hand side.

You can download a pdf version of our Adobe AcrobatLearning Guide to find out in detail the kind of sessions we offer or alternatively look below for a brief overview of the information.

We ask all school parties that visit us to fill in an evaluation form. Click here to download a copy of the report on the findings from last year's evaluation. You can find out more details by filling in the enquiry form at the bottom of this page.

We are committed to providing resources and activities tailored to the National Curriculum, especially at Key Stages 1 and 2.  As a result, we aim to fit the following areas into our activities and loan box material:

  • Chronological understanding
  • Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
  • Historical interpretation
  • Historical enquiry
  • Organisation and communication

We can provide sessions for single class groups with an adult to child ratio of 1:6.  After a brief introduction, you will be asked to divide your party into two groups, one group will do a museum-led session and one will do a teacher-led session, the groups will then swap over.  The activities encourage children to engage with objects in a variety of ways, including detailed observation, use, drawing, discussion and comparison with modern equivalents. Click on the underlined sections below to download more information.

All school visits and education sessions must be booked in advance.  You can download a school visits or a loan box booking form above.  If you require further information please contact Erewash Museum Tel: 0115 9071141.
