Neighbourhood Warden Service
WHY
In April 2005 Erewash Borough Council decided to establish a Neighbourhood Warden Service for the Borough in order to work with the community to improve our environment and deal with aspects of anti social behaviour.
WHO
In total there are 12 Wardens recruited from a range of backgrounds including the police, local government and the armed forces. Whatever their background the Wardens have a common aim of improving our environment. Our Neighbourhood Wardens are easily recognisable when out and about in the Borough, wearing a blue and black uniform displaying the Neighbourhood Warden logo and driving a clearly marked van.
The Wardens key areas of work include:
- Environmental enforcement (including fly tipping and graffiti)
- Management & operation of Erewash markets
- Management & operation of Erewash public car parks
- Enforcement of residents parking scheme in Long Eaton & Ilkeston
- Investigation & removal of abandoned vehicles
- Dog welfare & enforcement including collection of stray dogs
- Refuse & cleanliness inspections
- Anti social behaviour
- Town centre patrols
- Inspection of nuisance vehicles (In respect of use of a highway to repair or sell vehicles as part of a business only)
- Advising members of the public about additional Council Services
TOGETHER WE CAN
• Identify the fly tippers
• Reduce litter
• Reduce anti social behaviour
• Reduce dog fouling
• Reporting crimes
• Gathering evidence in anti social behaviour cases to help the Council take action
What we did
The Wardens continually strive to make Erewash a cleaner and more pleasant place to live and work and have:
- Issued fixed penalty notices for dropping litter, dog fouling and abandoned vehicles
- Investigated dog fouling cases and fly tipping cases
- Taken prosecutions to court and made further referrals for prosecution
- Dealt with cases of vandalism and graffiti
- Collected stray dogs
Partnership Working
Our Neighbourhood Wardens work closely with a variety of partners. These include Derbyshire Police, Three Valleys Housing, Derbyshire County Council, Environment Agency, Erewash Community Safety Partnership and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue. If you wish to report crime anonymously please visit the Crimestoppers website or contact them on 0800 555 111. Should you wish to report a crime which is in progress then please dial 999.
Be our ‘eyes’ and ‘ears’ and use the 24 hours confidential PRIDE LINE to report environmental crime (Fly tipping, littering, abandoned vehicles, dog fouling and graffiti).
Don't assume some one else has let us know.
