Welcome to Erewash

Scenes from the borough of Erewash

  ...driving for success

Waste Storage and Collection

The Council is committed to maintaining Erewash as an attractive place to live, visit or work and clean streets are one of our primary objectives.

We advise that all planning applications for new developments/redevelopments/change of use etc should consider whether adequate provision has been made for the storage of waste and recyclable material and, where possible, this will include access for waste collection vehicles.

The Waste Storage and Collection Guidance is in the process of development and will be available in the near future. This will be Erewash Borough Council’s practical guide for use by planners, developers, architects, building managers and others to enable them to design and implement successful waste management strategies for buildings in Erewash. Detailed information will be given about the physical design of buildings, including the sizes of bin stores, through to the practical management of waste once a building is occupied.

The guidance should be used from the earliest stages of building design. Designing in adequately sized bin storage areas, access for collection crews and vehicles and other aspects of waste management are difficult to apply retrospectively. The recommendations are integral to the design of a building and will provide information that is useful for building designers and assures planning officers that a suitable waste management strategy has been developed.
