Urban Capacity Study 2006

Urban Capacity Study 2006

Erewash’s Urban Capacity Study 2006 has assessed the potential supply of residential development in the Borough in light of national planning guidance provided through the now replaced Planning Policy Guidance Note 3: Housing.

The Study was carried out through the summer of 2006 to ascertain where areas of potential housing supply existed in Erewash. It has been produced in accordance with the advice given in the ‘Tapping the Potential’ document, a supplementary document which has now also been superseded in light of the new guidance note Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing.

No formal public consultation has been undertaken on this particular study. This is due to the progression of the Sustainable Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) which was commenced prior to the anticipated adoption of the Urban Capacity Study. The progress of the SHLAA study is the primary reason for the Urban Capacity Study not being formally adopted by the Borough Council. However, given the detailed site scoping work that has been carried out for the purposes of this study, the Urban Capacity Study serves a useful purpose in providing local baseline data and evidence relating to known housing capacity in Erewash. Therefore, if necessary, this information can be introduced into the Sustainable Housing Land Availability Assessment work which is currently being progressed by the Borough Council in partnership with the other Local Planning Authorities in the Nottingham Core Housing Market Area.
