What is the Erewash Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)?
Community Involvement is playing an ever-increasingly important role in encouraging local residents as well as stakeholders in the planning system to become involved in the production of planning documents in Erewash.
The new planning system, driven by the implementation of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 has introduced a range of documents (including the Statement of Community Involvement) which places engagement with local communities at the heart of planning reforms.
The Statement of Community Involvement sets out the Borough Council's approach to involving the local community in the preparation, alteration and review of all planning policy documents and planning applications that relate to the Borough of Erewash. The SCI shows who, when and how local communities can become involved in what the Borough Council is doing and what measures have been taken to ensure that interested individuals and groups are informed about the progression of various planning documents as well as having the chance to comment on their content.
The Erewash Statement of Community Involvement was adopted by the Borough Council on the 30th March 2007. This ensured that the document was adopted in conformity with the time provisions made for its production in the Erewash Local Development Scheme (LDS).
The Adopted Erewash Statement of Community Involvement
The Borough Council will now have to accord with the provisions as set out in the adopted SCI document when preparing LDF documents and also when processing / determining planning applications. As mentioned in the SCI document, it is envisaged that the Adopted SCI will be formally reviewed every three years from the date of adoption. However, the Borough Council will continue to monitor the effectiveness of its content in line with ever-evolving consultation and engagement techniques in planning. This is to ensure that the methods and techniques of consultation remain ‘fit for purpose’ for the individuals / groups and forum
