Animal Welfare
The Council provides licences and services dealing with a variety of animals. On payment of an annual licence fee the Council inspect and issue an annual licence for certain types of premises where animals are kept. Before issuing a licence, a Council Inspector will inspect the premises concerned to ensure the health and welfare of the animals is protected.
A licence is required if you:
- Operate a boarding kennel or cattery
- Have kennels for dog breeding
- Run a riding establishment (but not livery stables)
- Run a pet shop
- Keep certain types of dangerous animals
- Operate a zoo or circus (with performing animals).
