Erewash Borough Council has a population of approximately 110,000.  It is economically and socially diverse with rural areas served by market towns, as well as larger urban centres.  The Borough is generally prosperous.  There are however, areas within the Borough that suffer from considerable economic and social deprivation.

The 2001 Census indicates the black minority ethnic community population accounts for 1.93% of the total Erewash Borough population.
